Amazon.com Product Description Add a zesty style to your mobile computing with the stunning good looks of the Sony VAIO VGN-CS260J/P notebook PC, which offers a high gloss black coloring and is tricked out with a pair of dynamic LED lights that glow from beneath the front to deliver an ultra-cool effect in a full spectrum of colors as your music plays. This VAIO CS is also a great multimedia companion, enabling you to go straight to your movies, music and photos via an intuitive AV slide control that lets you control your media with the slide of a finger. The touch-sensitive controls have 12 bright LED indicators that light up as you glide your finger to change tracks, scenes or adjust the volume. The 14.1-inch widescreen display uses Sony's XBRITE-ECO LCD technology so you can see deeper blacks, brighter whites, true-to-life color and razor-sharp detail from almost any angle. And the Blu-ray Disc optical drive (read-only) lets you play high-definition Blu-ray Disc movies in crystal-clear resolution. Stay connected to colleagues, friends and family at home or on-the-go with real-time video conferencing using the integrated MOTION EYE camera and microphone. It's powered by the 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor, which boosts speed, reduces power requirements, and saves on battery life. It offers a fast 800 MHz front-side bus speed and 2 MB L2 cache. It also includes Intel's 5100 AGN wireless LAN, which will connect to draft 802.11n routers and offers compatibility with 802.11a/b/g networks as well. And you can use wireless headsets for video chats and stream music to compatible speakers using the embedded Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity (featuring the A2DP music streaming profile). Other features include a 320 GB hard drive, 4 GB of 800 MHz RAM (maximizing capacity), dual-layer DVD±RW drive (which also burns CDs), integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics (with up to 1750 MB of total available video memory), ExpressCard 34 slot, and both Memory Stick and SD memory cart slots. It also comes pre-loaded with the 64-bit version of the Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium operating system. This Sony notebook is Energy Star 4.0 certified, and has received a Silver EPEAT designation for meeting standards to help reduce its environmental impact. Additionally, it is RoHS-compliant, effectively reducing the environmental impact by restricting the use of lead, mercury and certain other hazardous substances. | Spec Check - Color: Black

| | | The Basics - Processor: The Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor has a 2.0 GHz processor speed, fast 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
With two computational execution cores in a single processor, it provides greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. Some of the advanced Intel innovations of the Core 2 Duo processor include: - Smart Memory Access: Improves system performance by hiding memory latency, thus optimizing the use of available computer data bandwidth to provide data to the processor when and where it is needed.
- Advanced Digital Media Boost: Effectively doubles the execution speed for instructions used widely in multimedia and graphics applications.
- Dynamic Power Coordination: Coordinates Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology and idle power-management state (C-states) transitions independently per core to help save power.
- Deeper Sleep with Dynamic Cache Sizing: Saves power by flushing cache data to system memory during periods of inactivity to lower CPU voltage.
- Hard Drive: The large 320 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive (5400 RPM) offers a wealth of storage space, perfect for storing a vast multimedia collection or for editing digital video. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to Firewire and USB 2.0.
- Memory: The 4 GB of installed RAM (PC6400, 2 x 2 GB) maximizes the capacity of this notebook, and it also offers an ultra-fast 800 MHz speed.
- DVD/CD Drive: This Sony notebook is capable of playing back Blu-ray Disc movies in stunning clarity, as well as playing your current library of purchased and burned disc content. This notebook can also write standard DVD and CD media. The BD drive offers a 2x speed for reading BD-R/RE discs and a 2x BD-R/RE DL (dual layer) read speed. It also offers the following write speeds for standard DVD and CD discs: 6x DVD±R DL, 8x for single-layer DVD±R, 6x DVD±RW, 24x CD-R/RW, and 5x for DVD-RAM.
- Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a standard 82-key keyboard with a 2mm stroke and 18.05mm pitch as well as an electro-static touchpad. Control your music and movies with a slide of your finger using the touch sensor A/V slide control. You can control media playback as well as volume.

The Sony VAIO CS in black. | | Screen, Video & Audio You'll enjoy razor-sharp graphics and widescreen movies with the 14.1-inch WXGA high-definition screen, with its 1280 x 800-pixel resolution. The XBRITE-ECO technology (with LED backlighting) delivers brilliant colors and stunning clarity with efficient power usage, and it features an anti-reflective coating to minimize reflection and ensure a beautifully clear image from any viewing angle. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD, which uses shared video memory (up to 1750 MB allocated from the system memory). This graphics card is built with Intel Clear Video technology, which delivers clearer, more detailed images by eliminating many of the jagged edges and video artifacts seen when viewing interlaced content and features powerful color control to ensure videos are not too dark, overly bright, or washed out. It's compatible with external monitor resolutions up to 1920 x 1200. Networking, Connectivity & Expansion Be ready for the next platform in wireless connectivity with the integrated quad-mode Intel Wireless 5100AGN Wi-Fi chip. Based on the draft 802.11n Wi-Fi specification, it offers up to five times the performance and twice the wireless range as existing 802.11g wireless. It's also backward compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found in home routers and wi-fi hotspots) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments). With the Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, you can communicate and synchronize with Bluetooth-enabled peripherals such as PDAs and cell phones as well as enjoy wireless stereo music streaming (thanks to its embedded A2DP profile). This notebook also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 34 card slot (though no PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. Here's the full list of connectivity options: - 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
- 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
- Analog video output: 1 VGA
- 1 ExpressCard/34 slot
- Memory Stick/Memory Stick PRO slot (Standard/Duo) with MagicGate functionality
- Secure Digital memory card slot (compatible with MMC cards)
- 1 headphone jack, 1 microphone jack
- 10/100 Fast Ethernet
- 56K modem (V.92/V.90)

SONY VAIO=P.O.S. January 13, 2010 Jaco (Escazu, CR) i promised myself not to buy sony after the first laptop i bought 3 years back had a terrible battery life, was slow, acceptd no extra memory etc.
going for the extra RAM i went for the Vaio again late in 09 and once again, the battery sucks, i believe the supplier, TechnoIntelligence which gave me relatively good customer service, did not supply the backup discs. i will add that the non-sony box gave the impression i was being sent a clone or a refurbished item which they deny but who knows....) and finally it broke down miserably and which took a computer technitian over 24 hours of intense labor to get running again with 7 this time as it would not take Vista. Now its working fine but the controls for the bar are no longer working....
in any event, i paid too much for this HEAVY laptop with basically no battery power. Got me twice Sony. Enjoy this last time....
Lenovo here i come.
Do not buy Sony Vaio! November 16, 2009 Andrea Kuroki My notebook doesn't work after one month of use! I am trying to fix it up with no success.
I've already sent it for repair. They said that the defective part has spilt residue on it. I've never spilt anything on my notebook!!! The only explanation for that is the notebook already came with the defect! And it seems that I will not have my notebook fixed under warranty!
I'm very disappointed. It's an expensive item, and I'm not getting the desirable support.
I have HP notebook and I've never had any problem with it!
sony serves you right September 6, 2009 Krista B. (United States) First off, don't buy it because its pretty. Yes I have it in pink but that was not the determining factor; I just love that I have the option. What the other reviewer is saying about the keyboard I don't get because yeah the keys ARE spaced together but its a typical laptop keyboard but its comfortable to type on. The best part is all that gunk and funk don't get stuck in between the keys but they aren't so close together.
Its fast, and has a lot of space although its still smart to back up your stuff so you don't get screwed in case something does happen. The sound quality is great; I do voice over IP and there was no issue. Also, when I was working with the Blu-ray and other things it is great;the graphics and picture quality are amazing and the screen is just the right size. I watch Blu-ray's, DVS's and also download from Netflix to this computer and its perfect! The touch sensor AV control is a nice touch.
For photos, I love that it has all the slots not just one. Especially because no one is getting pictures from me if I have to take that extra step of hooking a camera up to the computer to do it.
Out of the box the battery setting comes out OPTIMIZED I recommend the Balanced setting or you be constantly recharging your battery. My only beef is windows vista which takes some time getting used to but is an easy transition. Also, word of warning scrap the Windows OneCare its crap and they are doing away with it because it performs so poorly yet Microsoft still allows people to purchase it. Save your money for Norton instead.
Lastly,I've had this computer for over two months now and not a problem. This is my second Vaio the first which is over five years old and with my active duty husband aboard a US Navy submarine. And trust me he is not gentle with anything. These are NOT crap-made computers and last a good long time when you take care of them right. (p.s. I also buy a sqauretrade warranty to be on the safe side too). Buy it you won't regret it.
DON'T BUY THIS COMPUTER August 1, 2009 Martha Hughes (Livingston, TN USA) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
I don't have the time to tell you all the things I've experienced with Sony , , , and this notebook. It would take me half a day. I ordered it directly from Sony. I received a small screen and the keys are so close together I can't type on it well at all. Two things I told the salesperson was that I wanted a regular sized keyboard and the best sound card. I didn't get either one. In fact the volume is so slow, you can barely hear it. That's a good reason not to buy one unless you hold it up to your ear to hear it
I had to wait two weeks to receive it and when I got it, I didn't open right away. They said that since it was a few days after the return date, they would do nothing. They finally set up a repairman to come out because it was doing so many things, like the screen will just roll so that you can't read it. it wouldn't defrag. It would go on all night and when I'd go back to it the next morning. Still running, trying to defrag, It was , , , I could go on and on with the problems I've had. It still has multiple issues with it. They told me they would send a repairman out to check it out and that I would get a call within 72 hours. I waited for the call, never came. I called them back and they said it had been cancelled. Couldn't give me a reason, the rep said he didn't know. They could have at least called me and told me so I didn't hang around the house for three days. I hate it.
The last laptop I had was an HP, I never called their support one times in the three years I had it.
If you want a computer you can sit down, surf the net and enjoy your experience, do not buy this one!
The only good thing is that it is pretty, but it's not worth it. I wanted more than that just pretty.
By and large a satisfactory laptop June 9, 2009 Dorska (World citizen) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have already heavily used this laptop both for work and fun. I hook it up to Clearwire which provides me portable Internet access. The wireless has worked seamlessly. The only thing that bothers me is the loud left click although the silent touch pad provides an alternative. I would also like a dial to adjust the sound as the slide pad is not yet as responsive as I would like. I gave it a 5 star because it is an excellent laptop even with my particular preferences. I like the location of the delete button. Am begrudgingly learning Vista and Word 2007. Am looking forward to seeing what the new Windows will provide.
